Dansk Melodi Grand Prix gets help from fans

In previous years the selection of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix songs happened behind closed doors, but after missing the Eurovision final two years in a row, DR has decided to make some changes in the process.

We have established a new strategy for the selection of songs. We need more opinions and therefore we have invited a jury to hear and judge the songs-, says DR’s head of entertainment Jan Lagermand Lundme.

That’s why the Danish broadcaster invited 50 Eurovision fans, TV viewers and music industry professionals to listen and evaluate 41 of the 1,100 submitted potential Melodi Grand Prix songs.

The producers Cutfather and Jonas Schroeder had pre-selected the 41 songs the popular jury listened to.  According to Jan Lagermand Lundme, the main reason behind the changes in the selection process is to get the country back in the final.

The president of OGAE Denmark, Johann Sørensen, who attended the listening session, expressed his gratitude towards the broadcaster for turning out to the fans for help.

Lighthouse X won this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with 42% of the viewers votes. However, in Stockholm the boy band finished second to last in the second semifinal with only 34 points.
