Finland: UMK 2017 participants announced

The Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 songs and artists have finally been announced this morning by the Finnish broadcaster, YLE. The final will take place on Saturday 28th of January. For the first time since the beginning of the show, UMK will only consist of a final where the following 10 contestants will compete for the coveted position of the Finnish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv.
Here are the competing entries:

  • Zühlke – Perfect Villain
  • Emma – Circle of Light
  • Günter & D’Sanz – Love Yourself
  • My First Band – Paradise
  • Alva – Arrows
  • Norma John – Blackbird
  • Lauri Yrjölä – Helppo elämä
  • Knucklebone Oscar & The Shangrila Rubies – Caveman
  • Anni Saikku – Reach Out For The Sun
  • Club La Persé – My Little World

One of the biggest surprises is the participation of the Swedish singer Günther who will perform alongside with Daniel Sanz, who previously competed in The Voice of Finland. We also have 25-year-old Catharina Zühlke who participated in the Finnish singing competition ‘Idols’ in 2013. All the artists are new names to the Eurovision family except for Güther who competed in Melodifestivalen back in 2006 with the song ‘Like Fire’.
You can listen to all the entries HERE and you can rewatch the press conference below.

I am a politics student and geopolitics lover who lives and breathes Eurovision every single day of the year. I also love blasting schlager on my headphones while wearing an unamused face.
