Romania announces national final dates and details

Earlier this year, fans were shocked to learn that Romania had been forced to withdraw their 2016 entry. The announcement came less than two weeks before rehearsals were to start in an unprecedented turn of events. Luckily, it seems like TVR have left the past behind them. They’re now looking ahead to 2017 with the release of the details and dates concerning their national final “Selecţia Naţională” earlier today.

The schedule for the coming months

• Between December 20th and January 22nd, songs can be submitted to TVR. Further details regarding rules can be found on their website, in case anyone feels inclined to try their luck.
• Just a few days later, between the 25th and 27th of January, a jury will listen to all the submitted entries. They will make a decision on which songs will advance to the later stage of the selection process. These entries will be announced sometime in February. The exact date remains unknown, but as we draw closer to crunch time, there will probably be more details available.
• Then, on February 26th, the chosen songs will compete in the semi final with the hopes of reaching the final that takes place on March 5th.

A new voting system

There will be 15 songs competing for the golden ticket to represent Romania in Kyiv. For the first time ever, the juries will announce the semi-finalists in a televised preselection. It remains unknown what prompted this slight change in format, but it’s not unthinkable that TVR are ready to come back with a bang after Ovidiu Anton’s “Moment of Silence” was forced to withdraw from the 2016 contest in the last second.
The winner of the final will be decided by a televote. Therefore, the faith of Romanian’s 2017 participation lies entirely in the hands of the public. Hopefully they make the right decision, and Romania will be back stronger than ever.
