Adrijana falls, Nano and Ace sail through. Results: Melodifestivalen semifinal 1

In what must be remarked as one of Melodifestivalen’s most competitive and open opening semifinals in history, it was Nano and Ace who came out on top going direkt till Friends for the final in Stockholm in just five weeks time. Whilst this is unsurprising, Adrijana, who had been tipped as a possible qualifier to Andra chansen due to her contemporary hip hop sound, was unable to make it further than the first round of voting. Here are the full results of Melodifestivalen semifinal 1.
Nano, who was so overwhelmed with the support tonight in qualifying for the final that he said that he thought he was going to fall, as an immediate reaction to the backing from the arena. For Ace Wilder, it could be third time lucky. She was nervous and did not expect immediately to qualify to the final, but was certainly pleased that she did.
Going onwards to Andra chansen in Linköping, in four weeks time, were De Vet Du, the popular viral comedy act who really brought a high production entry and performed it for all they were worth, and last year’s finalist – who also went via Andra chansen then – Boris René, the former footballer who gave up his career for a chance at making it big with pop music.
Whilst those four acts will be seen again, three will not. Dinah Nah made it to the second round of voting but, unfortunately for her, finished fifth. The reaction to not making it through to Andra chansen was clear, Dinah Nah knew she wasn’t going to win a head to head with Ace Wilder. Whilst disappointed, Dinah Nah gave a competent performance that we’ve learned to expect from her.
For two artists, it was all over after the first ‘snabbreprise’. Adrijana and Charlotte Perrelli were eliminated before the second round of voting, finishing sixth and seventh respectively. For Adrijana, who calls Rihanna an idol and based her performance on “Runaway” by Kanye West, she was disappointed that her hip hop/trap song couldn’t progress further but was happy for the experience nonetheless. Charlotte Perrelli, however, expected not to qualify. Instead, the twice winner was using Melodifestivalen as a platform for her new sound – ahead of a new album release – and enjoyed performing on the stage tonight.
