Germany: Full voting breakdowns are released for Unser Song 2017

Last night, Levina was crowned the winner of Germany’s Eurovision Song Contest selection process Unser Song 2017. After several rounds of voting, the public chose her over four other contestants. In addition, Germany decided that Perfect Life would be Levina’s Eurovision entry rather than the other potential entry Wildfire.
Today, ARD released the full televoting results for each of the four rounds of voting after they (seemingly temporarily) appeared on Eurovision.de. Let’s have a look at them below!

Round 1: Cover round

Place Artist Song Televotes Draw
1 (Q) Levina When We Were Young 89,156 5
2 (Q) Helene Nissen Folsom Prison Blues 49,964 1
3 (Q) Axel Feige You Know My Name 39,242 4
4 Felicia Lu Kürbiß Dancing On My Own 13,139 3
5 Yosefin Buohler Love On Top 12,748 2

Three artists were clearly ahead after round 1, although Helene placed second at this early stage of the contest. Nevertheless, Levina dominated the covers round. She achieved nearly double the number of votes compared to Helene in second place.

Round 2: First song for Eurovision (Wildfire)

Place Artist Song Televotes Draw
1 (Q) Levina Wildfire 79,811 3
2 (Q) Axel Feige Wildfire 47,639 2
3 Helene Nissen Wildfire 41,459 1

Levina was once again dominant in the second round, albeit not quite as dominant as in the covers round. Helene was only 6,000 votes away from knocking Axel out of the competition. As Axel was considered the favourite prior to the show, this would’ve been quite the surprise!

Round 3: Second song for Eurovision (Perfect Life)

Place Artist Song Televotes Draw
1 (Q) Levina Wildfire 124,326
2 (Q) Levina Perfect Life 60,474 2
3 Axel Feige Perfect Life 57,631 1
4 Axel Feige Wildfire 36,266

While only Perfect Life was performed in this round, viewers could once again vote for Axel and Levina’s versions of Wildlife from the previous round if they preferred them to Perfect LifeWildfire was the absolute clear winner in this round, surprising considering the final result. In fact, Levina’s version of Perfect Life very nearly didn’t make it through. Axel’s version of that song was less than 3,000 votes away from making it through to the fourth and final round.

Round 4: The final decision

Place Artist Song Televotes Draw
1 (W) Levina Perfect Life 100,407 2
2 Levina Wildfire 45,285 1

Despite Wildfire being easily the public’s favourite in the previous round, the Germans made a U-turn in the final round. Suddenly, Perfect Life was the clear winner as announced on the show with 69% of the final vote. Perhaps a second listening of Perfect Life was a positive for the German public whilst it wasn’t so much for Wildfire? Perhaps the voting system was just confusing? Nevertheless, it was a clear victory for Perfect Life!
Have any of the voting results surprised you? Why do you think the public switched preference to Perfect Life right at the very end? Let us know in the comments section below and via our social media pages @escXtra!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
