Yodel it! Romania reveals the 15 semi-finalists for ‘Selecția Națională 2017’

Following Lora’s withdrawal last week, 71 acts remained in the race to represent Romania in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. Over the past few days, TVR have been broadcasting the live auditions. Finally, this evening, the broadcaster has announced the lucky 15 acts that have made it to the televised semi-final of Selecția Națională 2017. The semi-final will take place on February 26th with the grand final following a week later on March 5th. In a change in format, a jury alone will decide which 10 acts will qualify from the semi-final to the final. Then, televoting alone will determine the ultimate winner.

The 15 remaining contenders

The 15 acts that will take part in the semi-final of Selecția Națională 2017 are as follows:

  • Alexandra Crăescu – Hope
  • Ana Maria Mirică – Spune-mi tu
  • Cristina Vasiu – Set The Skies On Fire
  • D-lema – Adventure
  • Eduard Santha – Wild Child
  • Elize & No Stress – Fără bariere
  • Ilinca & Alex Florea – Yodel It!
  • Instinct – Petale
  • Maxim – Adu-ți aminte
  • MIHAI – I Won’t Surrender
  • Ramona Nerra – Save Me
  • Tavi Colen & Emma – We Own The Night
  • Tudor Turcu – Limitless
  • Xandra – Walk On By
  • Zanga – Două sticle

Surprising eliminations perhaps include Sergiu Bolotă whose entry was composed with former Estonian Eurovision entrant Stig Rästa. In addition, Miryam failed to make the cut with her entry composed by last year’s Selecția Națională winner, Ovidiu Anton.

Early favourites

Three acts seem to be considered to be amongst the early favourites. Of course there is current Eurovision fan favourite Yodel It! which has received lots of support from online followers of the competition. As a result, the official audio of the song has passed over 150,000 views on YouTube after just a couple of weeks. Furthermore, Instinct’s Petale is also considered a major contender. The official music video for the song already has more than 3.5 million views on YouTube after being released three months ago. However, perhaps the main favourite is Maxim. The boy band already has more than 4 million YouTube views for their entry Adu-ți aminte, released two months ago.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
