Revamped voting system for a revamped EMA
This year’s edition of EMA is the first Slovenian selection to include more than a single show since 2012. In previous years, some fans have disagreed with the amount of power juries have in determining the winner. For example, in 2016 juries alone decided which 2 acts would progress to the superfinal. Only then would televoters have their say.
This year, four acts will qualify from each semi-final. Two qualifiers will be chosen by the public televote and two more will be chosen by the jury. In the final, the winner will be chosen by a combination of 50% televoting and 50% jury voting. The jury voting will reportedly consist of six regional juries. Furthermore, there will no longer be a superfinal. This is presumably due to the fact that televoters will get a say throughout the competition now, rather than just at the very end.
