Estonia: 10 acts qualify for the Eesti Laul final

Following the second semi-final of Eesti Laul on Saturday evening, we know now the 10 acts that will compete in the final on March 4th. The winner will of course represent Estonia at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv in May! In both semi-finals, 4 qualifiers were selected by a combination of televoting and jury voting. An additional qualifier from the remaining six acts was then selected by televoting alone folloiwing a second round of voting. We recap the 10 acts that have qualified below.

Semi-final one

The 4 acts that qualified as a result of the combined televoting and jury voting in the first semi-final are as follows:

  • Elina Born – In Or Out
  • Ivo Linna – Suur loterii
  • Karl-Kristjan & Whogaux feat. Maian – Have You Now
  • Lenna Kuurmaa – Slingshot

Following a second round of voting for the remaining six acts, televoters alone selected the final qualifier from semi-final one:

  • Ariadne – Feel Me Now

Semi-final two

In the second semi-final, these four acts qualified following the results of the combined televoting and jury voting:

  • Kerli – Spirit Animal
  • Koit Toome & Laura – Verona
  • Liis Lemsalu – Keep Running
  • Rasmus Rändvee – This Love

Televoters alone then selected the final qualifier from the remaining six acts:

  • Daniel Levi – All I Need

Looking ahead to the final…

As happened last year, the final will take place at the Saku Suurhall in Tallinn. This arena hosted the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest and hosted the Eesti Laul final for the first time last year. The winner will be selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, a jury vote and the televote will be combined 50/50 to select three entries to progress to the second round. Then, in this so-called “superfinal”, televoting alone will select the ultimate winner.
It is important to note that in previous years, the jury in the final has consisted of different members to those that voted during the semi-finals. Therefore it is not impossible for the acts that required the televoting wildcard in the semi-finals to contend for victory in the final. Many Eurovision fans believe that this year’s final of Eesti Laul is one of the strongest national finals any country has had for many years. We can’t wait for it!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
