Latvia: The four finalists for Supernova 2017 are now known

Latvia’s Eurovision national selection is nearing its conclusion. Following the two Supernova heats, eight acts had qualified for the semi-final. Yesterday evening, the semi-final took place and the four acts that had qualified for next Sunday’s final were announced! As with every show so far, the two acts that topped the semi-final televote qualified for the final. The jury then selected two further acts from the remaining six to also take part in the final.

The qualifiers

The two entries that qualified as a result of gaining the most televotes were as follows:

  • My Radiant You – All I Know
  • Triana Park – Line

The jury then selected the following two acts to qualify from the remaining six:

  • The Ludvig – I’m In Love With You
  • Santa Daņeļeviča – Your Breath

In a unique turn of events, the four finalists all originally took part in the second of the two heats. It certainly turns out that the second heat was the strongest!

The public alone will select the winner

As the public televote alone will choose Latvia’s 2017 Eurovision Song Contest entry on Sunday, the immediate favourites would seem to be My Radiant You and Triana Park. Both of these acts triumphed in the televote in both the second heat and the semi-final. Triana Park have received the most YouTube views for their performances too.
It’s also important to look at Latvia’s Spotify charts which also contribute to the voting totals. Following last night’s show, Triana Park have entered the top 5 of the national daily charts while The Ludvig has made it into the top 10. My Radiant You and Santa are in 19th and 21st place respectively. It will be interesting to see if this streaming support for Triana Park can take them to victory!
Which of the four finalists do you want to see win Supernova 2017? Do you think any of these acts can improve on Justs’ 15th place finish in Stockholm last year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below and via our social media pages @escXtra!

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
