Tomorrow, The Netherlands will present their 2017 entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Back in October, AVROTROS they had internally selected O’G3NE. The band consists of twins Amy and Shelley Vol and their older sister Lisa. Now, a day before the entry presentation, ad.nl have revealed that the Dutch entry will be titled Lights and Shadows. In addition, the national newspaper describes the song as an “uplifting power ballad”.
Shelley: “Everyone is able to win Eurovision”
Recent comments in Dutch media have suggested The Netherlands do not have a particularly favourable draw for this year’s contest. The country has been placed in the first half of the second semi-final. ad.nl believes the fact that O’G3NE are performing in the larger semi-final and in a semi-final that doesn’t contain cultural friends Belgium is a disadvantage.
Responding to the fears, O’G3NE’s Shelley said the following:
“We also believe in the idea that everyone should be able to win [Eurovision] so basically it does not matter who is performing before you or after you and in which semi-final you are in. Obviously you need a little bit of luck but I think we have as much chance as anyone”
O’G3NE are Eurovision veterans!
Back in 2007, O’G3NE represented The Netherlands at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Then performing as Lisa, Amy and Shelley, the sisters performed Adem in, adem uit. They finished in 11th place and you can relive their performance below!
A family affair
Lights and Shadows is written by two people with close ties to the sisters, Rory de Kievit and Rick Vol. Rory is Shelley’s boyfriend and Rick is their father! Rick has written some of O’G3NE’s previous singles, including Magic and Wings To Fly. You can watch the entry reveal live at 11.30am CET tomorrow morning via a live stream on the AVROTROS Eurovision Facebook page.
