Kyiv 2017

Greece: ‘This Is Love’ is chosen as Demy’s entry for Kyiv!

This evening, Greece chose the entry that Demy would sing in Kyiv! Greek televoters and diaspora both voted between three songs and chose This Is Love as their winner. The entry is composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos with lyrics by Romy Papadea and John Ballard. Kontopoulos composed all three entries in the final.

A landslide for the dance anthem

The running order for three entries that competed in this evening’s show were as follows:

  • Angels
  • This Is Love
  • When The Morning Comes Around

The decision was made by 70% national televoting and 30% diaspora jury voting. The diaspora jury consisted of 9 countries with a prominent Greek diaspora. Eight of the juries voted This Is Love as their favourite while the Azerbaijani jury voted for When The Morning Comes Around. Once the results were combined with the televoting, This Is Love was declared the winner.

Demy will perform This Is Love in the second half of the first semi-final. Greece will be hoping to bounce back from their first non-qualification last year when Argo finished in 16th place with Utopian Land in the first semi-final in Stockholm.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
