Brendan Murray’s entry for Ireland unveiled as “Dying to Try”

The Irish contender for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, Brendan Murray, has had the first play of his song “Dying to Try”, which is co-written by Jörgen Elofsson, live on RTÉ 2FM.
The song itself is a contemporary mid-tempo pop ballad which allows Brendan to display his range competently in the chorus. It also features a key change, typical of Elofsson’s writing, in the final chorus. This is the kind of song that would be considered for a winner’s single on the UK version of The X Factor.
According to RTÉ’s official reveal article, over 300 entries were submitted and Louis Walsh was the chair of the panel to select the winning entry, as previously announced.
Brendan himself said that his “mam teared up” when he showed her the song for the very first time. He describes the song as a love song.
