Valentina Monetta returns for San Marino alongside Jimmie Wilson

SMRTV have just announced who’s representing them this year, and it’s got all of us excited!
Returning to represent San Marino in Kyiv is none other than Valentina Monetta, who represented the nation on three previous occassions, in 2012, 2013 & 2014 – giving San Marino their best placing to date with ‘Maybe’.
She is joined by country blues singer Jimmie Wilson who has performed with stars such as Seal, Lionel Richie, The Weather Girls and DJ BoBo. He most recently starred in Hope: The Musical.
The Sammarinese entry is a catchy, 70’s disco-inspired song, and it’s fun to see Valentina trying something new!

Who is Valentina Monetta?

Valentina Monetta is best known for representing San Marino in the 2012, 2013, and 2014 contests. She also took part in the 2008 national final for San Marino, but she was not selected to represent the micro-state.
In 2012, her song “Facebook, Uh, Oh, Oh” was selected to represent San Marino. However, there was controversy, as the lyrics contained “an unreasonable commercial message for Facebook”, and this resulted in the disqualification of the lyrics. On the 22nd March, it was revealed that the lyrics had been changed, and the song was now called “The Social Network Song (Oh, Oh, Uh, Oh, Oh)”. The song placed 14th in semifinal, with 31 points. This was the best result for San Marino at that time.
On the 30th January 2013, Valentina was revealed to the Sammarinese representative again, with the song “Crisalide (Vola)”. Unfortunately, she failed again to qualify, but received 47 points, creating another new record for San Marino.
Once again, in 2014, Valentina was announced to be representing San Marino for the third consecutive time. Her entry this time was called “Maybe”. Maybe is the only Sammarinese entry yet to reach the final of the contest. But, it finished in only 24th place. However, this was again, another new record for San Marino.
Now she will represent San Marino again, this time with Jimmie Wilson! Will she beat her record?

Who is Jimmie Wilson?

Jimmie Wilson is an American singer, as well as a musical theatre actor. He studied acting in Hollywood, performing in a musical produced by Michael Jackson, Sisterella. He also played Barack Obama in the German musical Hope! – Das Obama Musical.
 
San Marino will participate in the second half of the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. We wish them good luck!
