In 2010, Lena won the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany with Satellite. The victory is considered an important moment by many in regards to the history of the contest.
Indeed, Satellite was the first chart-friendly modern pop song to win in several years. Furthermore, Germany became the first of the so-called Big 5 countries to win since the introduction of the rule. It was this moment when many Western European countries that had become disillusioned with the contest in the 2000s believed that they could win again.
One of the most successful winners of the 21st century
Lena returned to score another top 10 finish the following year with Taken By A Stranger. She has since go on to become one of the most successful winners of the 21st century, maintaining a chart presence in Germany and its neighbouring countries as we approach a decade after her victory. So far Lena has released four studio albums with all four charting top 2 in Germany and top 40 in Austria and Switzerland. In addition, nine of Lena’s singles have hit the German top 50 with four reaching the top 10. This of course includes Lena’s 2015 hit single Wild & Free, the second single from Crystal Sky and a soundtrack song for popular film Fack ju Göhte 2.
It’s time for album number five!
So where does Lena go next? Of course, it’s time for studio album number FIVE! Lena teased a few months ago that the new album would be titled Gemini. We presume this has no link to the similarly named UK Eurovision entry Jemini! Now, the era is beginning in front of our very eyes. At the time of publishing, Lost In You has just been released throughout Central Europe. For fans in the UK, Ireland, Iceland and Portugal, expect a release within the next hour. It is rumoured this could be just a promotional single rather than the first official single from the album… we shall wait and see. Nevertheless, check it out below!
