Moments ago, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced the ‘Eurovision Fan House’, which will be a brand new online community for us Eurovision fans!
The EBU has entered into a ten-year partnership with The Native Media Inc., a digital content marketing firm based in New York, to create the online ‘Eurovision Fan House’.
What is the ‘Eurovision Fan House’?
The Native Media Inc have made a press release:
“We envision the EFH as an ever-expanding collection of digital properties which will provide gamification, on-demand merchandising, artificial intelligence-powered content and multiple other engaging forms of digital entertainment. Furthermore, the EFH aims to engage the global, predominantly millennial fan base with the Eurovision Song Contest on a year-round basis.”
What this exactly means is somewhat unclear, but it seems that the ‘Eurovision Fan House’ will have games, a new online shop, and make use of artificial intelligence. Very exciting!
The EBU’s media director, Jean Philip de Tender, says:
“The Eurovision Song Contest is a unique success story. It is a 60-year-old music competition that unites viewers on all platforms in more than 40 countries every May. Through the partnership with The Native Media Inc., we want to complement our existing channels by offering more content for the millennial generation to follow and engage with the Eurovision Song Contest throughout the year. Thus, the Eurovision Fan House will help us reach this goal.”
In addition, the founder and CEO of The Native Media Inc., Izabela Zepczyk, says:
“Making this formidable television product relevant for a millennial audience is what EFH is about. We are happy to have EBU’s trust with this exciting new venture! We will make the Eurovision Fan House as entertaining for the fans as the finale itself.”
When will we hear more?
The EBU will give us more details on the ‘Eurovision Fan House’ on 1 May 2017. It is still unclear when The Native Media Inc. will launch the ‘Eurovision Fan House’. However, a staged launch will take place in time for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
