ESCXTRA: Live from Kyiv

Day 4: Koit Toome & Laura complete first rehearsal for Estonia – REVIEW

ESCXTRA are live from Kyiv for day four of rehearsals ahead of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest! The countries rehearsing today, in chronological order, are San Marino, Croatia, Norway, Switzerland, Belarus, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia and Israel. Furthermore, read our handy guide for a more detailed look at this contest’s rehearsal schedule.

In addition, for our immediate reactions to every single rehearsal, you can follow our live stream from the press centre at the International Exhibition Center by visiting our YouTube channel.

The latest artist to rehearse is Koit Toome & Laura from Estonia. We have just watched their first run through of Verona live on screen and here is our initial reaction.

Summary in a sentence

Estonia have taken their national final staging and improved it with effective use of the LED floor. This should have wide appeal!

The LED backdrops are black and white, similar to that in the national final. We think the Koit and Laura “holograms” from the national final while the other is singing appears towards the beginning. Koit and Laura do not look at each other until the very end where they smile massively. In addition, Koit’s entrance to the stage is accompanied by a light up pathway on the LED floor, and the LED floor is used simply and effectively throughout. A couple of camera shots need improving but most of it is already spot on.

Koit and Laura both sounded great, and they harmonise well despite their unique tones.

In this second run through (as the first one was only streamed to us in part), Laura is wearing a gorgeous white dress while Koit performed in a black jacket, with white shirt and grey trousers.

Watch the rehearsal!

Stay tuned for our reaction to IMRI as he rehearses I Feel Alive next for Israel. Meanwhile, remember to tune in to our live stream from the press centre for instant reactions to each rehearsal.

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
