ESCXTRA: Live from Kyiv

Day 4: Kristian Kostov completes first rehearsal for Bulgaria – REVIEW

ESCXTRA are live from Kyiv for day four of rehearsals ahead of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest! The countries rehearsing today, in chronological order, are San Marino, Croatia, Norway, Switzerland, Belarus, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia and Israel. Furthermore, read our handy guide for a more detailed look at this contest’s rehearsal schedule.

In addition, for our immediate reactions to every single rehearsal, you can follow our live stream from the press centre at the International Exhibition Center by visiting our YouTube channel.

The latest artist to rehearse is Kristian Kostov from Bulgaria. We have just watched his first run through of Beautiful Mess live on screen and here is our initial reaction.

Summary in a sentence

Bulgaria have several different elements packed into this complicated and mostly effective performance, will be perfect once the timing becomes spot on!

Staging

The LED backdrop is black and blue themed, with white dynamic lines and shapes. Bulgaria make full use of the chandelier’s many screens. Kristian also has graphics on screen (Francesca Michelin-style) that he manages to interact with even though he can’t see them in the arena. Very modern and will look great once everything is timed perfectly. As the song progresses, the LED has a torrential rain shower effect on it creating a very dramatic feel. He is alone on stage but Kristian completely fills it.

Vocals

Kristian’s vocals are solid as always and I imagine there is room for more ad-libbing in future rehearsals.

Costumes

Kristian is wearing a stylish modern jacket with a white shirt visible underneath. He also wore black trousers.

Watch the rehearsal!

Stay tuned for our reaction to Fusedmarc as they rehearse Rain Of Revolution next for Lithuania. Meanwhile, remember to tune in to our live stream from the press centre for instant reactions to each rehearsal.

Ryan Cobb

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
