Rehearsal review

Stage presentation

The stage is very tastefully lit with gold, with a white square highlighted with a grand piano-cum-stage which Emma stands on for the first chorus. Emma makes good use of the platform in front of the stage, where she walks down with her dancers before giving choreography for the final chorus.

Compared to Norway earlier today and Albania yesterday, the choreography needed a bit more tidying up, but it was still a very effective presentation for the song. However, she connects with the camera from the very start, and is a very seasoned performer.

Costumes and styling

The styling is excellent; Emma is waring a mini dress made completely out of small mirrored panels, which is accompanied by matching silver tennis shoes. The look is fresh and adds a sense of modernity to the performance. 10/10 for the styling for me.

Vocal quality

As expected Emma sounded pretty much perfect for every run, and added a ‘jury note’ for the very end. Based on what we’ve seen so far, we are very much expecting the juries to put this in contention to qualify, and the appeal is very clear from that perspective.

Overall impression

Overall, neither the song nor the staging are spectacular or particularly unique, especially compared to the other entries from this half. However, this cannot be ruled out based on the very clear appeal that the song has to an international jury.

They absolutely need to work on the choreography and the camera cuts before the jury shows, though.
