Lisbon 2018

Lisbon Confirmed as Host City for 2018!

Only 2 days ago, Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for Portugal, with his song ‘Amar Pelos Dois’. Today, the Portuguese broadcaster RTP has confirmed what many fans had already guessed: Lisbon will be the host for Eurovision 2018!
Lisbon is the capital and largest city in Portugal, with a population of 2.7 million. It is continental Europe’s westernmost capital city, and the only one along the Atlantic coast.
Lisbon is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, international trade, education, and tourism.
It is a clear and obvious choice for Eurovision!

What About The Venue?

It is likely that the contest will take place in the MEO Arena. It is the largets indoor arena in Portugal, with a capacity of 20,000 people. This beats last year’s venue, which had a capacity of 10,073, and the 2016 venue, which had a capacity of 16,000. In fact, it would be the largest arena to host the contest since 2012!

The MEO arena has hosted concerts with many international stars, including Justin Bieber, Adele, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Kylie Minogue. It is clearly quite prestigious, it would work beautifully as the Eurovision arena!
What do you think? Is Lisbon the best choice for Portugal? Would you like the MEO Arena to host the contest? Tell us in the comments!

I've watched Eurovision for as long as I can remember, but my interest really built in 2008, after I decided to watch the semifinals online, out of boredom, before the final...I was blown away by the quality of the show and have been hooked ever since! I'm a competitive trampolinist and I love baking. I've also just completed a master's degree in Research Methods in Psychology at University College London.
