The Scoop

Ireland’s Junior Eurovision star Zena Donnelly auditions for ITV’s ‘The Voice Kids UK’!

It certainly seems watching episodes of Coronation Street on Fridays is the way to see former Junior Eurovision contestants on British television! Prior to the episode, ITV aired a trailer for the upcoming first series of The Voice Kids UK due to begin airing next month. And who did we spot this time? Only Irish Junior Eurovision star Zena Donnelly! See Zena in action in the trailer at 0:21 and 0:31 below, courtesy of ITV:

Twitter has got in on the action!

It wasn’t the first time ITV had aired the trailer. Some people on Twitter commented that they saw Zena earlier this week!

Zena Donnelly: Ireland’s most successful Eurovision star since Jedward!

Zena earned Ireland their best finish in any Eurovision Song Contest since Jedward finished in 8th place with Lipstick in 2011. Her performance of Bríce ar Bhríce earned Ireland their first top 10 finish at Junior Eurovision, finishing in 10th place with 122 points. In addition, it was notable and wonderful how several of the younger Junior Eurovision participants last year looked up to Zena. This was no more evident than during Mariam Mamadashvili’s winning reprise. Zena ensured the Georgian vocal sensation made the most of that special moment!

Junior Eurovision is taking over the UK…

This time last week we saw a trailer of Maltese Junior Eurovision 2015 winner Destiny Chukunyere auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent. As we saw when the episode aired, Destiny earned a standing ovation and immense praise from the judges. She will now wait to find out if she will be one of the lucky acts to perform in the live semi-finals next week. This decision will be made on tomorrow night’s episode! Of course, Destiny and Zena met at last year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Valletta!

…but not completely

It may seem that ITV are loving all things Junior Eurovision. However, yesterday the broadcaster confirmed that they would not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi. This means that 2005 will remain the UK’s most recent participation at the contest unless the BBC make a shock swoop to take part for the first time. We thought this year would be the perfect year for ITV to return, even before Destiny and Zena turned up on ITV’s most popular talent shows. Read why we believed this by clicking here!

Nevertheless, good luck Zena for your journey on The Voice Kids! We’ll be supporting and voting for you! Zena’s audition is expected to air on ITV next month.
