During Sobral’s Eurovision experience, and after, he has been known for his controversial comments. During dress rehearsals for the grand final, he wore a sweatshirt with the logo “S.O.S. Refugees” on the front, and was almost disqualified for it. Now, he has commented on the Manchester Arena Bombing last week, and it has not been received well by some!
Uh oh. What did he say?
In response to the Manchester Arena Bombing, Sobral said in an interview with RTP:
“A lot of importance is given only to certain attacks, and I would like to hear about those attacks that aren’t reported about. I know that it’s very difficult, almost impossible, especially with social media, since it gives a lot of importance to them. It would be good if there was an agreement in the media about the reporting of terror attacks.”
His comments have generated some criticism, especially from Portuguese actress, Maria Vieira, who commented on Facebook:
“This guy is an inept idiot who does not say what he knows or knows what he says!”
She posted the comment on an article regarding Sobral’s comments, but Vieira has since deleted her comment.
Vieira is known for being very vocal with her opinions; she has previously publicly criticised:
- Ana Bola – A Portuguese actress and screenwriter
- Dolores Aveiro – Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother
- Diogo Morgado – A Portuguese actor
- Barack Obama – Former US President
What do you think about what Salvador said? Should Eurovision artists stay away from commenting on these matters? Do you agree with Vieira, or is she being harsh?
