The United Kingdom’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, Lucie Jones, has today been announced as the new host of Encore Radio’s Sunday Morning request show. She will be replacing another former Eurovision performer, Duncan James of Blue who represented the UK in 2011, while he takes a break.
Encore Radio is the UK’s musical theatre radio station, so Lucie is a perfect fit. Lucie has performed previously on the West End in Les Miserables and recently toured the UK with Rent. Her next production will be the UK tour of Legally Blonde, for which she will play Elle Woods.
Lucie Jones is a “bubbly character”
In making the announcement, Encore Radio’s Managing Editor, Jamie Crick, said:
“We first interviewed Lucie on tour in Rent and her bubbly character and natural charm fit so well with the rest of the team and I’m so pleased to have her as part of the growing family of Encore Radio talent, people who love musicals and want to share that with our audience across the south-east on DAB Digital Radio and all over the UK”
Lucie Jones finished 15th at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. She earned the United Kingdom’s best result since Blue performed in 2011. Duncan James is one of the members of Blue who finished 11th in the competition, coming fifth in the public vote.
As it stands, the BBC have made no confirmations regarding participation in Lisbon 2018 or how they would select the entrant if they were to participate. If the United Kingdom take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, they will participate as an automatic finalist as one of the Big 5.
