The Scoop

Lena surges to iTunes #1 after emotional performance of ‘If I Wasn’t Your Daughter’ on Sing meinen Song

Yesterday, we wrote about If I Wasn’t Your Daughter, the brand new single release by 2010 Eurovision winner Lena. The acoustic version of the song is now available on all digital music platforms. However, since our previous article, the popularity of If I Wasn’t Your Daughter has surged substantially. This is due to a stunningly emotional performance by Lena on German music show Sing meinen Song aired just a few hours ago.

A show all about the music

Sing meinen Song is a show where several musicians from a variety of musical genres face the “great musical challenge” of singing each other’s hits. It all takes place in front of a “breathtaking backdrop” and in a “relaxed atmosphere”. Not only do the artists taking part sing each other’s hits. They also treat us to special performances of their very own songs.

Lena did exactly that tonight, giving her first live TV performance of If I Wasn’t Your Daughter. Her fellow musicians and the watching audience were immediately wowed. Watch the must-see performance below!

The public are full of praise for Lena

Without doubt this is one of the most personal songs Lena has ever released. As written in our previous article, in the song Lena sings about the special bond that a daughter has with her father. Lena’s own father deserted her and her family when she was only two years old. Therefore, it seems that she is singing the song as a message to her father. The beautiful performance has earned praise from fans and non-fans alike and has surged to #1 on German iTunes in a matter of hours. The song has also hit the top 10 in both Austria and Switzerland.

You can watch the official music video too!

Alongside her performance, Lena uploaded the official music video for the song. She keeps it simple and beautiful, allowing the song to take centre stage. The video is already approaching 70,000 views after just three hours.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
