Bulgaria’s Eurovision broadcaster, BNT, is in the process of electing a new Director-General. Due to this, they’re withdrawing their previously confirmed Junior Eurovision participation. Their participation in the main contest is also up in the air.
The new Director-General, as well as a new board, will be elected sometime in August, BNT tweeted on their official Twitter account.
Due to the election of a new Director-General of BNT and a new board in August, the confirmation for #JESC2017 is no longer in place.

The very same applies to #Eurovision as well. All plans for participation will be assessed once again by the new executive body. https://t.co/UpTzdjts8I

Bulgaria in Eurovision
If Bulgaria opted against participating in the upcoming Eurovision editions, it’d be a shock considering their recent track record in both contests.
Upon returning to the main contest last year after a two year long hiatus, Poli Genova ended up in 4th place with “If Love Was a Crime”. This year, Kristian Kostov came close to winning the contest with “Beautiful Mess”. Prior to that, their best result in Eurovision was way back in 2007 when Elitsa and Stoyan finished in 5th place with “Voda”.
Meanwhile, they’ve also racked up an impressive streak in Junior Eurovision. In 2014, Krisia, Hasan & Ibrahim’s “Planet of the Children” reached a 2nd place. In the following two years, they reached 9th place twice with “Colour of Hope” and “Magical Day (Valsheben den)” respectively.
