🇵🇱 Junior Eurovision 2020: the two potential venues?

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 is scheduled for November 29 in Warsaw, Poland

There are two potential venues for Junior Eurovision 2020. The song contest is set to be hosted in Warsaw, Poland in November 2020.

Last month the logo and slogan were revealed for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 along with the announcement of the intention to host the contest in the city of Warsaw in Poland. The contest is scheduled for November 29th.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic it’s clear a contest the likes of what was seen last year in Gliwice will not be possible. EBU have stated their intention to host this year’s contest in a large TV studio to support a more controlled safer environment. Dziennik Eurowizyjny has reported the two potential venues that could be used by broadcaster TVP.

Option 1

The first is ATM Studio, one of the most modern studio facilities in Poland. The main hall has 1.5 thousand square meters of space and could accommodate up to 1,300 people. It is known in Poland for the location of TV shows “Bitwa na Głosy” and “The Voice of Poland”.

Option 2

The second is Transcolor Studio, a facility known in the television and advertising industry. Popular programs such as “Got Talent”, “You Can Dance” and “Dancing with the Stars” were produced there. Like ATM Studio it’s Hall 1 has an area of 1.5 thousand square meters. A feature useful for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is that the ceiling has up to 70 tons of lifting capacity, which should allow from some production possibilities we would normally expect with Eurovision.

Poland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Poland made their debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest when the contest began in 2003, in Copenhagen, Denmark. After winning the Polish national final for the contest Katarzyna Żurawik represented the nation with the song, “Coś mnie nosi”. Unfortunately, they finished last with just three points. In 2004, Poland came out with exactly the same result, finishing in the last place slot with again, three points.

After two years of poor results and despite TVP signing a 3-year contract with the EBU, Poland decided to withdraw from the contest in 2005. The country did not return to compete again until 2016, despite rumours in 2008 that the broadcaster was considering making a return.

On their return in 2016, Poland sent Olivia Wieczorek with the song “Nie zapomnij”, which finished in 11th place with 60 points. Last year, Roksana Węgiel became the winner of the sixteenth Junior Eurovision Song Contest with “Anyone I Want To Be”. A strong public vote landed her with 215 points to France’s 203 points.

In 2019, Viki Gabor won the contest with the song “Superhero”. She scored a total of 278 points, 51 points ahead of second place Kazakhstan. Poland received over 550,000 votes in the online vote, over 200,000 votes ahead of Spain.
