We are well into summer now, and more and more countries are confirming their plans for the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. In a statement to Eurovoix.com, Estonian national broadcaster ERR revealed they have no intention to make their debut in Tbilisi. Nevertheless, there is some positive news. Also in a statement to Eurovoix.com, Italy have confirmed they will take part for a fourth consecutive year!
Two top three finishes so far
Italy’s participation will once again be the responsibility of RAI Gulp, the children’s channel at the broadcaster. This will mark Italy’s fourth entry in Junior Eurovision. On their debut at the 2014 contest in Malta, Vincenzo Cantiello took the victory with Tu primo grande amore. The following year, Chiara & Martina Scarpari finished in 16th place in Sofia with Viva. Nevertheless, Italy was back on form last year. In Valletta, Fiamma Boccia took home the third place trophy with the beautiful Cara Mamma (Dear Mom).
Internal selection or national final?
It is currently unknown as to how RAI Gulp will select their entry. In 2014 and 2016, the broadcaster internally selected both their song and artist. However, in 2015, Chiara & Martina won a national selection for the honour. Their song was then selected internally.
