This evening, PBS hosted the Maltese national final for the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Ten young talents covered a popular song in an attempt to earn the public’s votes. The show recently concluded and Gianluca Cilia is the winner! Therefore, Gianluca will now represent Malta in the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi. In addition, PBS will internally select his song at a later date.
Ten young talents wowed Malta!
84 artists applied to take part, with twenty going forward into a shortlist. Then, an expert jury then internally selected which ten would progress to this evening’s live final. Francesca Zarb hosted this evening’s show which featured ten great performances. Indeed, the full line-up was as follows:
- Rianne Demicoli – Satellite (3rd)
- Demi Galea – Breathing Underwater
- Aidan Jay Drakard – Mad World
- Kylie Meilak – I Believe
- Gianluca Cilia – Perdere l’amore (1st)
- Veronica Rotin – And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going (2nd)
- Riona Degiorgio – True Colors
- Kira Copperstone – The Voice Within
- Jahel Cardona – One Night Only
- Thea Aquilina – It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World

The next step for Gianluca
Following his victory, Gianluca will be heading to Tbilisi to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest final on November 26th. As has been the case for the past few years, PBS will now internally select a song for Gianluca. This will likely be released to the public in September or October.
