DR reported at the beginning of July, that the song submission period has opened for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2018. Along with announcing changes in management, focus and new rules for submission.
The song submission period for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2018 is now open, and will stay open all year round. That means that composers can send in a entry whenever they wish to. All songs sent before September 15th, 2017, will be considered for the 2018 section process. Songs sent after that day may be considered for the 2018 contest, but in general will be considered in for the run the year after.
For those who are interested sending in a song, here is the application form. Foreigners are allowed to enter the competition. Given someone on the team is a Danish citizen or has strong connections to Denmark. That can be either a composer, a song writer or a performing artist. Further rules can be found here singed by Molly Plank the Executive producer.
Changes at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix
Jonas Schrøder and Cutfather have been Contributions Producers for 3 years now. The job has now been signed to singer and TV-man Mads Engaard. Mads has been working as Viewing Room Producer at the Eurovision Song Contest for the past four year, where he communicates between the delegations and host broadcaster how they think is the best way for their song to be performed and seen on screen.
With new Contribution Producer the focus will change. Mads Enggaard wants to focus on the whole process of the competition, giving extra attention to working together with DR’s television producers and choreographers. Therefore putting more focus on the whole look of the performance, not only the music and the lyrics.
The submissions should aim to have it recorded in a music studio, thus showing that an effort and a thought has been put into the song. DR will still accept submission that have not been professionally recorded.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2018
The decision for the dates of the final and the host city has not been announced by DR. Last year it was held in Herning, where Anja won with the song “Where I Am“. Aalborg hosted the event 2015 and seems to be getting ready to host it again.
Will the focus change and the new rules have great impact on the show, and help getting better results at Eurovision?
