Tonight, Zena Donnelly returned to our television screens as she took part in the battle round of The Voice Kids UK. We first became aware of Zena’s participation in May when we spotted her in an advert for the show. Last month, Zena’s blind audition aired and we saw the Irish Junior Eurovision star join Pixie Lott’s team! Following a sensational battle, Zena, unfortunately, missed out on progressing to the next round.
A three-way battle!
In this evening’s show, each coach pitted three of their team members against each other in a series of battles. From each battle, only one would progress to the next round. Zena competed against fellow team members Jess and Miriam. The trio performed a cover of Little Mix’s Little Me in an attempt to win that spot in Pixie’s final 4 artists. The coaches and the audience were both wowed with the performance by all three girls, with Jess winning the place in the next round.
Duetting with Whitney Houston
As a reminder, Zena rose to fame in Ireland after a video of her being invited to sing on stage with Whitney Houston at just seven years old took the internet by storm! She recently returned to the spotlight in Ireland, taking part in both the 2015 and 2016 Irish national selections for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. After finishing as runner-up in 2015, Zena went one better last year to take victory in Junior Eurovision Éire! She represented Ireland in Valletta with Bríce ar Bhríce and earned Ireland their first top 10 finish in the contest.
Zena showcased her amazing talent throughout her time on The Voice Kids and we can’t wait to see what is next for her! Hopefully, we’ll see her representing Ireland in the adult Eurovision Song Contest in the near future.
