Former winners Spain will not return to Junior Eurovision

Despite registering the brand “Eurojunior” in 2015 TVE has confirmed that the country will not be returning to the contest.

No return for the Iberian nation

Earlier this year the new Head of Delegation for Spain Ana Maria Bordas has confirmed that Spain’s participation in this year’s Junior edition was yet to be decided.
However, even with the high interest from the public, TVE has declined the invitation from the EBU to participate in the Junior contest this year.

Spain at the Junior Eurovision Contest

Spain is one of the inaugural contestants that debuted in Copenhagen, along with 15 other countries. In the first contest, Spain managed to achieve a respectable 2nd Place with Sergio’s song ‘Desde el Cielo’.
Spain managed to win in 2004 with Maria and her song ‘Antes muerta que sencilla’ scoring 171 Points and receiving 12 points from 8 nations. However, even though Spain’s participation in the Junior edition of the contest is short-lived they manage to hold a record of having top 10 results whenever they participated.

  • 2003 – 2nd Place
  • 2004 – Winner
  • 2005 – 2nd Place
  • 2006 – 4th Place

In addition to Spain; Armenia, Australia, Denmark, France, and Russia also hold the record of having Top 10 results whenever they participated in the contest.

Do you think that Spain should’ve participated this year in Tbilisi? or do you think they should make a grand comeback at next year’s competition and continue their record streak? Leave us your opinions and thoughts in the comments section below.

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
