Eleni Foureira is one of Greece’s most popular artists and has been a fan favourite to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest for several years. Now, in a brand new interview with The Music of Now, Eleni has reiterated her desire to represent Greece in Europe’s biggest entertainment show!
“I would really like to be a part of Eurovision some day”
In the interview, Eleni was asked what she thought of Eurovision and whether she would consider representing Greece at the contest. Eleni responded very enthusiastically:
“I would love to represent Greece in the Eurovision [Song] Contest. I believe that the whole experience of the Eurovision Song Contest is a wonderful journey. It is a joyful union of people with different cultures and music influences which can be really amazing. And since it is mostly pop oriented and I am a pop singer, yes I would really like to be a part of it some day.”
Repeatedly linked to Eurovision
This isn’t the first time Eleni has stated her desire to take part in Eurovision. In 2010, she collaborated with Manos Pyrovolakis on Kivotos tou Noe in the Greek national selection. After being one of three songs tied on points at the end of the final, Giorgos Alkaios & Friends prevailed with OPA after topping the public vote.
She returned to the national final in 2013 for a special performance of Wild Dances with Ruslana. In the past few years, Eleni has also reportedly revealed that she and her record label have been in various talks with ERT about a possible Eurovision participation. However, it has never quite worked out so far. Perhaps 2018 will be the year it falls into place?
Furthermore, in 2015 Eleni released a Greek-language cover of Nadav Guedj’s Golden Boy. Demy followed in her footsteps last year with a cover of Poli Genova’s If Love Was a Crime. Eleni’s cover version, titled Sto Theo Me Paei, became a massive summer hit in Greece! Rightly so!
Eleni’s new album is due for release this year!
So what is up next for Eleni? The Music of Now asked her exactly that and she explained her plans for the rest of the year:
“We are in fact preparing my next LP which is going to be ready mid fall in 2017. It will be released by Panik Records, my music family and I really really hope you will love it like I am as it grows in life! During the summer time we are on tour in Greece and Cyprus and maybe I will steal time for a few relaxing moments by the beach somewhere!”
Let’s hope a Eurovision participation for Eleni is also in her future plans! In addition, take a listen to a song that was rumoured to have been submitted to ERT for Eurovision 2016. Of course, ERT chose to go in a different direction with Argo that year.
