An Xtra Happy Birthday; July 15th

Today we have two Eurostars to celebrate; one girl, one guy. One is from Norway, the other is Croatian. One is a “one-timer”, the other a “repeat offender”. One performed in English, the other in their native language. The differences are many, but one similarity; they both did rather well in the contest. They actuallt have three top 10 results between them!

Danijela, 46

Danijela Martinovic represented Croatia both in 1995 and 1998. In the 1995 contest she was part of the band Magazin. They performed the song “Nostalgija”, finishing in a very respectable 6th place. Three years later, Danijela returned to the Eurovision stage with the (post-contest) immensely popular “Neka mi ne svane”. This time she moved one slot up, placing 5th. Over the years, this song has won several fan votes for “best Eurovision entry ever”. If you want to see what Danijela has been up to since 98; check out this article!

Carl Espen, 35

To celebrate today’s birthday boy, we need to head north, to Norway. Carl Espen Thorbjørnsen represented Norway in the 1014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. He performed the song “Silent Storm”, finishing 8th. Today he celebrates his 35th birthday!

We here at escXtra wish both Danijela and Carl Espen the most wonderful of birthdays!
