🇬🇧 Adam Peaty dances to Måneskin cover of “Beggin'” on Strictly Come Dancing

The Olympic swimmer and dance partner Katya Jones wow the judges in episode two with the Eurovision 2021 winners!

From the Olympic swimming pool to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom, Adam Peaty and Katya Jones perform a sizzling Cha Cha in episode two of the hit BBC1 show. Once more Eurovision unites in dance, as the Italian winners Måneskin see their cover of “Beggin'” take centre stage on the Strictly dance floor.

Måneskin feature in Strictly Come Dancing

During episode two of BBC1’s most famous celebrity dancing competition, keen viewers will have heard a familiar track in the show. Last night saw five time Olympic medallist, (including three gold medals), Adam Peaty and partner Katya Jones take to the floor for the first time, as they stunned the judges with a hip-shaking Cha Cha to Måneskin’s cover of “Beggin'”. Their interpretation of the famous Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons song. Despite a momentary slip, the pair finished the night joint second in the leaderboard with 30 out of a possible 40 points. Moreover, the judges praised Adam, one of Great Britain’s most successful swimmers of all time, for being able to move nearly as well on the dance floor, as he does in the pool.

Last night Strictly once again cemented its place as a ratings hit with 7.8million viewers. Thus it is a great platform for musicians looking for a streaming and sales boost in the UK charts. Not that Måneskin need worry, with “Beggin'” having already reached a peak of no.6 in the UK!

Next week will the see first elimination as the scores from this week and next are combined. UK viewers can tune in to Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday nights on BBC1.

Eurovision and Strictly Come Dancing

Of course, this is not the first time Eurovision has found its way to the Strictly ballroom. Despite the UK’s recent Eurovision history, the BBC are pretty fond of the contest and the songs lend themselves well to the timing patterns of many dances. Throughout the shows history the winning songs of acts such as Buck’s Fizz, ABBA, Lulu. Meanwhile the entries of Domenico Modugno, Gina G and Daði Freyr & Gagnamagnið have also featured in the show. Måneskin in the Eurovision Song Contest

Back in March, they won Festival di Sanremo with an impressive 53.5% of the vote in the superfinal, beating out stiff competition from two former Italian Eurovision representatives, Francesca Michelin (2016) and Ermal Meta (2018).

After an exciting voting segment in the Rotterdam contest, Italy was announced as the winner with 524 points – their first win since Toto Cutugno in 1990. Scoring 206 points from the juries and a further 318 televoting points. Thus, Måneskin finished 25 points ahead of France’s Barbara Pravi who finished the runner-up with 499 points.

Following their victory, the band have gone onto acclaimed success worldwide. From reaching top 40 in the Billboard charts, to being playlisted by BBC Radio 1. As well as collaborating with Iggy Pop and plans afoot for their third album later this year. There is no stopping this pioneering band, who have amassed almost a combined total of 200 million YouTube views for ‘Zitti E Buoni’ and over 200 million Spotify streams.
