An Xtra Happy Birthday; July 23rd

Today we have “just” one birthday boy to celebrate, but he has taken part in Eurovision twice! And it’s a big day for him today, as he turns 75! He represented his country in 1967 and again in 1976, and this might be enough for some of you to know who he is! For those of us who aren’t that much of a walking Eurovision encyclopedia, let’s reveal who we’re talking about.

Fredi, 75

Born Matti Kalevi Siitonen, Fredi represented Finland at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. He performed the song “Varjoon – suojaan”, finishing 12th with only three points. He returned to the contest in 1976, when it was hosted in The Hague. On this occasion he took part with his group Fredi & The Friends. Their song was called “Pump-Pump”, and they finished 11th.

All of us here at escXtra want to wish Fredi an Xtra happy birthday!!
