Last month, SVT revealed that there would be no changes to Sweden’s Melodifestivalen Eurovision selection format for 2018. Therefore, 28 songs will compete in four heats with 12 eventually reaching the grand final. As has been the case since 2013, the final will be hosted in Stockholm’s Friends Arena. Last week, Friends Arena issued the latest edition of their newsletter and may just have revealed the logo for Melodifestivalen 2018.
Going blue in 2018?
The image featured at the top of this article was present in the latest Friends Arena newsletter. It would make perfect sense for this to be the official 2018 logo. In 2016, SVT revamped the generic Melodifestivalen logo for the third time. That year, it was presented with a pink background theme. In 2017, the logo was accompanied by a dark purple colour scheme. You can check out the official compilation CD covers below to see the previous two logos in action. Therefore, going blue in 2018 seems like a likely choice!
The first Melodifestivalen 2018 act isn’t too far away
Nevertheless, while we await official confirmation that this is the 2018 theme art, we are closing in on the selection of the 2018 competition’s first artist. As has been the case since 2012, the winning artist of Svensktoppen nästa will be granted a place at the following year’s Melodifestivalen. This competition, now renamed P4 Nästa after the radio station that organises it, will take place in Linköping on August 26th. So far, Terese Fredenwall and Smilo were the most successful of these acts at Melodifestivalen. They both achieved fifth place in their respective heats in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
