An Xtra Happy Birthday; July 24th

We have three Eurovision stars to celebrate today! Two of them are women, one’s a guy. They are from Belgium, Monaco and Iceland. Between them they have five Eurovision participations. Their ages range from 62 to 30. And their Eurovision results range from 4th to not even qualifying for the final. We’ll start with the gentleman today.

Reynaert, 62

Reynaert (Joseph Reynaerts) represented Belgium in the 1988 Eurovision in Dublin. He performed in French, and the song was called”Laissez briller le soleil”. He only managed to get points from the French jusy, finishing 18th out of the 21 countries that participated. Today he turns 62, and we wish him an Xtra happy birthday!

Sigga, 55

Sigriður Beinteinsdóttir, better known as Sigga, has represented Iceland at Eurovision three times. In 1990 she participated as part of the duo Stjórnin, along with Grétar Örvarsson. They performed “Eitt lag enn”, finishing in 4th place. Two years later, they were joined by Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir and Friðrik Karlsson in the group Heart 2 Heart. They finished 7th with “Nei eða já”. Fast forward another two years, to 1994, and Sigga was back, on her own this time. In Dublin she finished 12th with “Nætur”. She was also one of the backing singers for Silvia Night in Belgrade in 2008. We wish Sigga a lovely 55th birthday celebration today!

Maryon, 30

Maryon Gargiuolo represented Monaco in the 2004 Eurovision in Istanbul. This was the year Monaco returned after having been absent from the contest since 1979. Her song was “Notre Planete”, a pretty uptempo song about taking care of our planet, especially the Mediterranean Sea. Maryon finished 20th out of 22 countries in the semi-final, thus not qualifying for the final. We hope she has a lovely 30th today!

All of us here at escXtra wish them the best of birthdays!
