An Xtra Happy Birthday; July 27th

Three Eurovision birthdays to celebrate today, one of whom is a winner! So, we have two birthday girls, one birthday boy. One winner, one non qualifier and one last place. One sings in English, one in English and Catalan and one in French. The oldest is born in the 1930s, the youngest in the 70s.

Isabelle Aubret, 79

Isabelle (born Therese Coquerelle) represented France in the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest. Performing “Un premier amour”, she gave her country it’s third victory in five years! Isabelle returned to Eurovision six years later, with “La source”, finishing in 3rd place. In addition to her two Eurovision participations she took part in the French pre-selection in 1961, 1970, 1976 and 1983. Today, Isabelle celebrates her 79th birthday, and we hope the day is Xtra wonderful!

Kristján Gislason, 48

Kristján Gislason represented Iceland in the 2001 Eurovision in Copenhagen. He was part of the duo Two Tricky alongside Gunnar Ólason. They performed the song “Angel”, which was one of the pre-contest fan favorites. At the contest, however, it didn’t do too well. It recieved only 3 point, thus sharing last place with neighbours Norway. Kristján did backing vocals for Hera Björk in 2010 and for Eyþór Ingi in 2013. Today he turns 48, and we wish him an Xtra super birthday!

Susanne Georgi, 41

Susanne, originally from Denmark, represented Andorra in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. She performed the song “La teva decisió (Get a Life)”, partly in Catalan, partly in English. Unfortunately she failed to qualify for the final, as she finished 15th in her semi-final. This was the last time, for now, that Andorra participated in the contest. Since her participation Susanne has continued working in music, and she has released several albums. Today Susanne celebrates her 41st birthday, and we hope it’s an Xtra happy one!

All of us here at escXtra wish Isabelle, Kristján and Susanne the very happiest of birthdays!
