🇮🇪 Lesley Roy to represent Ireland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest

Lesley's entry to be revealed in the new year

As we get closer to the end of 2020, we are receiving more news about who will be representing the participating countries in next year’s contest.

Another artist has been officially confirmed for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. RTE has confirmed that Lesley Roy will indeed represent Ireland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Lesley was set to represent Ireland at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Story of My Life’. However, the contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Been working on new material 24/7

When it was announced that the Eurovision Song Contest was not taking place in 2020, it was uncertain if Lesley will represent Ireland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Now that it’s confirmed, it was revealed that Lesley’s entry was written and produced by Lesley alongside  Lukas Hallgren, Philip Strand, Normandie, Deepend and Emelie Eriksson, and is set to be revealed in the new year.

Lesley revealed her excitement about participating at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest to eurovision.tv

“It was a real shame we didn’t get to showcase Story of My Life on the Eurovision stage but had the show not been canceled this new song would never have emerged. I’ve been working on new material 24/7 and this song was clearly the strongest out of all of the demos. I believe that it is even bigger than Story of My Life, and will reach an even wider audience. I am just so excited to finally get my shot on the Eurovision stage after months and months of work and can’t wait to reveal more information about our song in the New Year

Ireland’s Head of Delegation also mentions to eurovision.tv that the song is as catchy as ‘Story of My Life’

“We were all very excited about bringing Lesley and Story of My Life to Rotterdam this year so it was a real shame that it wasn’t to be. However, Lesley’s new song is every bit as catchy as the last one and I can’t wait for her to perform it in Rotterdam next May to the biggest live music audience on the planet”

As previously confirmed, Lesley is set to compete at the first semi-final on May 18.

Lesley Roy at the Eurovision Song Contest

At the start of 2020, RTÉ selected Lesley Roy to represent Ireland in the 2020 contest, with the song ‘Story of My Life’. Lesley co-wrote the song with Catt Gravitt, Robert Marvin & Tom Shapiro. Despite the cancellation of Eurovision this year, little has stopped her from entertaining Europe. From the Home Concerts to performing online at Dublin Pride, music still connects us in these difficult times.
