MIKI GLIGOROV
Heeey, my name is Miki. I come from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and I am the latest addition to the ESCXTRA Team (which I admired for quite some time now). I’ve been following the contest closely for 17 years and loved every minute of it. Another interesting fact is that every year I root for the underdog which would mean that my Eurovision top 5 on a yearly bases differs quite a lot compared to most. So, without further ado, let’s get things started.
Your first Eurovision memory?
My first Eurovision memory wasn’t a successful one. The young Miki fell asleep during Charlotte’s (then Nielsen) win back in 1999. I remember waking up and my mom telling me that the pretty blonde lady in the pink cowboy outfit won and me being quite upset with that fact, since I really wanted for Doris form Croatia to snatch the trophy. 18 years later, I am totally on board with Charlotte’s (now Perrelli) win.
With that being said my Eurovision love developed the following year. The small me stayed wide awake throughout the entire show just to make sure a pink cowboy wouldn’t win…… Again.
Your Eurovision journey?
It all began in May 13th in the year 2000 in Stockholm. The new millennium brought out the fan in me. I remember being fascinated with how flashy and dramatic the performances were. The stage was futuristic and the song I sang along to throughout the show won.
Fly On The Wings Of Love is the first winner the young me and the now me agree on.
Why is Eurovision special to you?
Eurovision represents everything I stand for…. Unity. I love the idea of everyone from all across the continent making peace and using music as their argument for a night. And from a less diplomatic and more personal point of view I LOVE THE MUSIC (as cheesy as it may sound!
What attracted you to ESCXTRA?
Definitely how approachable, kind and yet professional everyone on the team is. Following the Eurovision rehearsals through the ESCXTRA YouTube stream is almost as good as being at Eurovision yourself. I could sit all day in front of my laptop and feel like I am out with friends having a drink.
That’s why I would like to use this paragraph to thank everyone on the team for their dedication and hard work. Cheers guys, this one’s for you all… BUT, a special thanks to Wivian for always making sure my questions got answered. So glad I get to call her my co-worker now.
And finally, your top 5 Eurovision songs of all time…
- Turkey 2004: Athena- For Real
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pipamUl14A4 - Finland 2012: Pernilla Karlsson- När jag blundar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRC5NzxmrAA - Belgium 2003: Urban Trad – Sanomi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFrO6QUl61k - The Netherlands 2014: The Common Linnets – Calm after the storm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWe8PRsW4T0 - Estonia 2009: Urban Symphony – Rändajad
Without a doubt Estonia’s best effort at Eurovision.I love the lyrics, the melody and the violin break. Sandra did an outstanding job bringing out the mystical feeling of the song and translating it into pure magic on stage. Everything about this screams perfection and I love every second of it. It’s probably the only song in the contest that I never get tired of hearing. So, logically this musical delight gets my DOUZE POINTS.
Stay tuned for the next part in our Meet the ESCXTRA team series. On Sunday we will meet Brent! Remember you can share your Eurovision stories with us in the comments section below or via the comments sections on our Facebook page @ESCXTRA. We would love to hear them!
