πŸ‡³πŸ‡± “Arcade” becomes most-streamed Eurovision winner on Spotify

After re-releasing his song “Arcade in November with Fletcher, Duncan Laurence’s winning Eurovision song is in the spotlight again. “Arcade” has officially beaten Euphoria in number of streams on the music platform Spotify, with 164 million streams at the time of writing.

Where do the streams come from?

While “Arcade” has continuously done well on Spotify, reaching 100 million streams in April 2020, the numbers have increased in a short period of time. One of the reasons may be found on TikTok, a popular social media app where people make videos with music playing in the background.

“Arcade” was used by many Harry Potter fans on TikTok to create videos featuring Draco Malfoy, and has since then gained success on the app. With almost 500.000 videos featuring the song or a remix of the song, “Arcade” can certainly thank TikTok for some of its streams on Spotify. With this, Duncan joins other Eurovision stars who have gone viral on TikTok, such as Netta and Daði Freyr.

Other popular winning songs

Duncan Laurence is not the only one who can pride himself on a high number of streams for his winning entry. Not all Eurovision winners are successful on Spotify. For example, Estonia’s 2001 entry “Everybody” is not even available on the app. Yet, 4 winning songs have gained over 100 million streams.

While “Arcade” is in the lead, it is followed by Loreen’s “Euphoria” which is currently on 130 million streams. Other popular winners are Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes”, with 122 million streams, and ABBA’s “Waterloo”, which has been streamed 112 million times.

Duncan Laurence at the Eurovision Song Contest

The Netherlands internally selected Duncan Laurence to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. In Tel Aviv, Duncan managed to bring The Netherlands to the Grand Final for a fourth consecutive year.

In addition to his participation in the Grand Final, Duncan also managed to win the ‘Press Award’ for the ‘Marcel Bezençon Awards’ as voted for by the Press.

After 44 years, Duncan managed to win the Eurovision Song Contest for The Netherlands. The last time the country won the contest was in 1975 with “Ding-a-dong”.
