Cyprus to select composer internally for Lisbon 2018

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC is currently in negotiations with a, yet to be named, successful composer who will be in Cyprus the coming days to meet with the general director of the broadcaster in order to set the deal and eventually make an official announcment.
Having recently confirmed Cypriot participation for 2018, INFE Greece is reporting that CyBC is already planning their selection process for next year. According to information from the broadcaster, Cyprus is aiming to select the songwriter internally for next year’s Eurovision entry for Lisbon.
The name of the composer is not officially known, but the information so far is indicating that it will be a foreigner composer once again, but not Thomas G:son like the two previous years.

A televized show to select the singer and song?

Regarding the selection of singer, Cyprus will hold a televized show. Whether a singer will be chosen later on to sing proposed songs penned by selected composer in a national final, or a some kind of talent show, is yet to be revealed.
This is the third consecutive year that Cyprus is selecting at least the composer internally.

Cyprus in Eurovision

This will be Cyprus 35th entry to the contest after having first debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Cyprus best placing so far has been 5th having achieved that three times in Eurovision history in 1982, 1997 and 2004.
Cyprus was represented in Kiev this year by Hovig and his “Gravity” achieving a 21st place in the final.
Cyprus has successfully managed to qualify to the final the past three years now, with Thomas G:son having been the composer of both 2016 and 2017 Cypriot entries.
