The Scoop

WATCH: Gery-Nikol’s rumoured unsuccessful entry for Bulgaria 2017

For several weeks, Gery-Nikol was widely rumoured to be one of the front-runners to be selected as the 2017 Eurovision representative for Bulgaria. During the lead-up to Kristian Kostov’s eventual reveal in mid-March, BNT treated us to many teasers regarding the final six shortlisted songs. Shortly after Eurovision took place in Kyiv, Gery-Nikol uploaded the official music video of One of a Kind onto her YouTube channel. We might be a bit late on this one, but was this her submitted entry for Eurovision?

Remembering the “word cloud” teaser

For one of their Twitter teasers, BNT uploaded a “word cloud” that mixed up the titles of the six shortlisted entries. Of course, beautiful and mess were two of those words. Yet, very interestingly, four other words featured in the “word cloud” were one, of, a and kind. Therefore, taking this into account as well as the constant media rumours that surrounded Bulgaria’s 2017 selection, it seems almost certain that this song was one of those final six shortlisted entries to represent Bulgaria in Kyiv.

Do you think One of a Kind could have bettered Kristian’s sensational second place result and taken victory? Or, do you think Beautiful Mess was the perfect Eurovision package? Let us know in the comments below!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
