İctimai TV confirms Azerbaijan will take part in Eurovision 2018

İctimai TV is the latest broadcaster to confirm their participation in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. This means that Azerbaijan will be taking part in Lisbon next May. This was revealed in a statement to esctoday.com. However, İctimai TV has yet to determine their selection method for 2018.

Azerbaijan at Eurovision

Azerbaijan made their Eurovision debut in 2008. So far, they have participated in ten Eurovision Song Contests, qualifying on every single occasion! In fact, they scored six consecutive top ten finishes between 2008 and 2013. Of course, this included their first and only Eurovision victory in 2011: Running Scared by Ell & Nikki. In the past four contests, Azerbaijan’s results have taken a slight downturn having failed to score any top ten finishes. However, they have continued to qualify for the final which has to be deemed a success.

For the third consecutive year, İctimai TV selected their entire entry internally this year. Alternative-pop band Dihaj was selected to perform Skeletons. Diana’s performance on stage in Kyiv was certainly one of the most memorable, of course containing the unforgettable “man wearing a horse’s head” prop. Dihaj placed 14th in the grand final with 120 points. We expect that Azerbaijan will once again use a full internal selection to select their entry for next year.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
