Eurovision new year is just around the corner, and before this year is about to finish we will find out the first participant that will compete in Melodifestivalen 2018!
Swedish Radio P4 has released the name of the up and coming artists that will compete in the P4 Nästa song competition (formerly known as Svensktoppen Nästa.)
The competition focuses on finding music that would integrate well with the format of the radio station.
The first Melodifestivalen contestant
Ever since 2012, the winner of the contest has been given a slot in the Melodifestivalen heats, which is the norm for this year.
The winners of the Nästa competition haven’t had much luck when it comes to competing in Melodifestivalen.
The best results from the competition are as follows:
- 2013 – Terese Fredenwall and her song ‘Breaking the Silence‘
- 2016 with Smilo and their song ‘Weight of the World‘
Both songs nearly reached ‘Andra Chansen’, placing fifth in their respective heats.
The competition always takes place in the last week of August. Therefore, it misses the cut-off point for the song the contestant wins with to be eligible for the contest.
When the other artists that will compete in Melodifestivalen 2018 are confirmed, the song the winner will compete with would then be confirmed.
The contestants competing for this year
This year there will be 8 songs that are competing in the Grand Final:
- Chris L Svensson – Drive
- Frontback – On and On
- Jo & Eliah – Since
- Maija Hom Hom – Skyscraper
- Miah – That’s when we all come falling down
- Michi – Friday night club escape
- Sisanda – If this is love
- Stiko Per Larsson – Kumpaner (Vi är som)
The clips for all the songs are available to listen on the Swedish P4 website, just click on the contestant you want to listen to!
The final of P4 Nästa will be held on the 26th August in Linköping during its city festival and will be broadcasted by P4.
