Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP) 2018 will be held on 10 February in Gigantium in Aalborg and once again, Annette Heick and former Lighthouse X-member Johannes Nymark will host the show that will decide Denmark’s representative in Lisbon, DR has just announced.
Gigantium in Aalborg has hosted the Danish finals before, in 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2015. Earlier this year, the arena suffered a massive fire, but it seems is on the way to being fully restored and ready to host both the Danish Eurovision selection and the junior final, MGP. Once again, the hosts will be Annette Heick (who took part in DMGP in 1991 and 2007 and co-hosted the show in 2005, 2016 and 2017) and Johannes Nymark (Lighthouse X, Denmark 2016, co-host in 2017).
Denmark has had a bit of a crisis in terms of results in ESC the past couple of years, with two failed qualifications and a 20th place in 2017. DR have since appointed a new music supervisor, Mads Engaard and opened the selection process already in July.
The Head of Entertainment Jan Lagermand Lundme is looking forward to seeing Annette and Johannes hosting the show again, saying they both have big passion for DMGP and that there’s a great chemistry between them. Annette Heick is thrilled to having been chosen as the co-host again, saying that DMGP and Eurovision is in her DNA (remember that her father is Keld Heick, who was involved in 8 Danish entries from 1979 to 1993) and Johannes Nymark is happy to be chosen to host together with Annette again and is looking forward to do something new and different next year.
Deadline to apply to DMGP 2018 is 15 September and all songs sent after the deadline will be considered for DMGP in 2019.
The selection process to choose the 10 competing songs is still unclear, considering that in previous years DMGP used to select invite artists and/or songwriters as special “wildcards”. For 2017, the Denmark’s branch of OGAE was the one to help selecting the competing entries. More on that to be revealed in due time.
