The Scoop

UK’s Bonnie Tyler to perform “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during actual total eclipse!

This will be one of the most bizarre news stories you read today, but Bonnie Tyler is about to perform her signature classic Total Eclipse of the Heart during an actual total eclipse. On August 21st, the majority of the United States will witness a total solar eclipse. This, of course, is when the moon appears to completely cover the sun. Bonnie will be a special guest on the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship and will perform the track as the eclipse darkens skies above the ship. Amazing right?

Bonnie to be joined by pop-rock band DNCE

To make the performance even more special, Bonnie will be joined by American pop-rock band DNCE, led by former Disney star Joe Jonas. Bonnie discussed the event with TIME during a stopover in her home of Wales:

“It’s going to be so exciting, it doesn’t happen very often, does it?”

We’re sure this will send the Internet crazy once it happens on Monday, we just can’t believe it’s taken Bonnie so long to seize such an iconic opportunity! Bonnie entered the Eurovision family in 2013, representing the United Kingdom with Believe in Me. The internally selected entry finished in 19th place. However, this was an improvement on Engelbert Humperdinck’s 25th place finish in Baku the previous year.

Will you be keeping an eye out for videos of this special moment on Monday? Furthermore, did you enjoy Bonnie’s Eurovision entry back in 2013? Let us know in the comments below!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
