Lisbon 2018

Spain’s ESPreParty will return to Madrid on 21st April 2018!

Yesterday, Eurovision Spain revealed that the ESPreParty will return for the second year in 2018. The preview party will take place over the weekend of the 20th and 21st April 2018. The red carpet welcome event will take place on the Friday with the concert following on the Saturday. Once again, the party will be held in Madrid as was the case earlier this year.

Madrid’s debut party was a massive success

The first ESPreParty took place earlier this year, in the lead up to Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv. The EBU granted the preview party the status of “Official Related Event”. This is the same status given to the preview parties that annually take place in Amsterdam, London, Moscow, Riga and Tel-Aviv. 21 competing artists from the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest performed in the first ever ESPreParty. These included four of the eventual top 5 finishers in Kyiv: Kristian Kostov, Sunstroke Project, Blanche and Robin Bengtsson.

The organisers of the event are looking to make the 2018 edition even better than this year’s party. 2018 is a special year, with neighbouring Portugal hosting their first Eurovision Song Contest in which Spain will celebrate their 50th anniversary of their first victory: Massiel in 1968. More details regarding the event will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The 2018 preview party season begins to take shape

Following the announcement of Eurovision In Concert 2018 taking place on April 14th, this makes ESPreParty the second preview event to confirm their date. In addition, following Amsterdam’s announcement, a teaser by the London Eurovision Party on Twitter indicated their preview event will take place on the weekend prior to Eurovision In Concert. Nevertheless, this is yet to be officially confirmed.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
