Barbara Schöneberger Returns to Host German Eurovision National Final in Berlin

The anticipation is building for Eurovision fans in Germany as the national broadcaster NDR, part of the ARD network, has announced that Barbara Schöneberger will return to host the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. This marks Schöneberger’s eighth time hosting the event, setting a record in the history of German Eurovision national finals.

Titled “Eurovision Song Contest 2024 – Das deutsche Finale,” the competition is set to take place on February 16, a Friday evening, at the Studio Adlershof in Berlin. This year’s show deviates from the usual prime time slot, scheduled to begin at 22:05 CET.

The winner of this eagerly awaited two-hour live broadcast will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest final in Malmö on May 11, 2024.

Schöneberger: A Eurovision Veteran

Schöneberger’s history with the Eurovision national finals is notable. She first took the helm in 2014 and continued through 2017, returning again in 2019 alongside Linda Zervakis, and then in 2022 and 2023. Her contributions to the show have been widely recognized, earning her the prestigious German Television Award for “Best Individual Performance/Entertainment Moderation” for her work on the 2023 show, “Unser Lied für Liverpool.”

The national finals experienced a shift in recent years, with the 2023 edition being held in March, a departure from the usual February schedule, and taking place in Cologne instead of Berlin.

A Legacy of Hosts

Schöneberger isn’t the only notable figure to have graced the stage of Germany’s Eurovision national finals. She is followed by Axel Bulthaupt, who has hosted the show six times. Other prominent hosts include Thomas Hermanns, Anke Engelke, Hape Kerkeling, Carmen Nebel, Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff, Carolin Reiber, Thomas Gottschalk, and Katja Ebstein, each bringing their unique flair to the beloved music competition.

As Eurovision fans eagerly await the national final, all eyes will be on Berlin to see who will earn the honor of representing Germany in Malmö. With Schöneberger at the helm, the event promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent and entertainment.
