Lisbon 2018

Stiko Per Larsson is the first Melodifestivalen 2018 act

With just a few days to go until Eurovision 2018 season officially kicks off,  we now have the first name confirmed to be taking part in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen next year!
As has been the case for a number of years, a professional jury from P4 radio’s annual ‘Svensktoppen nästa’ radio competition decide on an act from a shortlist of five, who they believe should be given a direct ticket to the following year’s edition of Melodifestivalen, where they will compete with a new composition. Earlier today,  it was decided that 38 year old Stiko Per Larsson would be given the ticket to compete in next year’s Swedish national selection.
Stiko released his debut album ‘Flyktsagor’ in 2008 and has slowly built up a following with his string of live gigs surpassing over 100 a year. With five studio albums under his belt, he has managed on three occasions, to reach the #1 spot on the Swedish iTunes chart. Through his hiking tours in 2016, he was able to raise 1 million kronor for the Swedish charity ‘SOS Children’s Villages’, an organisation committed to providing a loving home for every child.
His music can be compared to Mumford & Sons with it’s mix of pop, rock and folk sounds.

More details on next year’s Melodifestivalen is expected to be released by SVT over the coming weeks, which will include the confirmed dates and host cities.   The remaining 27 artists are expected to be unveiled in a press conference later this year.
