The Scoop

We catch up with Krista Siegfrids following the release of her new single, 1995!

She represented Finland in Eurovision 2013, and has since participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen twice. Just a few days ago, she released her new single, 1995, which we can’t stop listening to! Today, we got to have an exclusive chat with Krista Siegfrids about Eurovision, Melodifestivalen, her new single, and her future!
ESCXTRA: Hi Krista! So you’ve just released your new single, 1995. For our non-Swedish speaking readers, what is 1995 about? What’s so special about the year?
Krista: The song is about two teenagers in love. They meet again many years later as grown ups and they think about what life would have been like if they just would have stuck together. I love the vibe in the song. It makes me happy! I’m a 90’s child and a lot of great things happened back then. The 90’s was the best time of my life! So it was clear that I wanted to make a happy tune that reflects the feeling I had.

ESCXTRA: I’m a massive fan of yours, Faller and Snurra min jord are two of my Mello favourites of all time, and our team was shocked when you didn’t qualify with either. Do you have any idea what went wrong?
Krista: Thank you <3 I’m so happy you like my Mello songs 🙂 As a Finn, it’s harder for me to compete in Melodifestivalen. I don’t have a big fanbase in Sweden. I think it’s as simple as that.

ESCXTRA: Will you return to Mello again? Or do you have any other plans for the future?
Krista: I think I’m gonna take a break from competing in Mello! 😛 I’ve been hosting UMK for 2 years in a row and I absolutely LOVE it! <3 It’s the funniest job ever! I wish I could do it forever! Haha! Another dream is to host Melodifestivalen, that would be fun too!

So, which is best…

Eurovision, Melodifestivalen, or UMK?

Krista: I love Eurovision, Mello, and UMK! I won’t choose! I take em all!!! MORE IS MORE!!!

Singing in Swedish or English?

Krista: I love singing and writing music both in English and Swedish. But right now I have a deal with Universal Music Sweden that I’ll do music in Swedish. But we’ll see what happens after that. 🙂

Participating or hosting?

Krista: Right now I don’t feel like competing. I’m tired of it, haha! But I LOVE hosting! And I love ESC so I wanna be a part of it somehow.
See Krista open this year’s UMK as the host below!

Finland or Sweden?

Krista: I take Finland and Sweden, since I live in both countries right now! 😉

Dancing or singing?

Krista: If I have to choose, singing.

Faller, Snurra min jord, or Marry Me?

Krista: Marry Me, 4-ever in my heart!!! <3 <3 <3

Finally, do you have a message to our readers?

Krista: I wanna thank everybody that has been supporting me! Thank you for listening to my music! And I hope that you’ll put 1995 on repeat on your Spotifylist 😉 Hope to see you soon! Kisses <3

I've watched Eurovision for as long as I can remember, but my interest really built in 2008, after I decided to watch the semifinals online, out of boredom, before the final...I was blown away by the quality of the show and have been hooked ever since! I'm a competitive trampolinist and I love baking. I've also just completed a master's degree in Research Methods in Psychology at University College London.

She is so overrated among fans. I hope she will not present the Finnish final next year. She seems like a Petra Mede-thing….Trying to make it like a “gay show”. Some fans are gay, but bot all. Gays are OK, but it’s getting so silly and one dimensional
